Thing 12

I have used Google Translate before. I lived in Germany two years when I was a child. I still remember some of the Germany I learned but I had forgotten what they meant. I used the translator to find out. Liebchen in Germany is sweetheart or darling and pommes frites are French fries or fried potatoes. What I like about Google Translate is the button that allows you to see other translations because just like in English Germany words can have more than one meaning. There is also a microphone that allows you to hear the pronunciation of the word. As a teacher that will help me be able to speak the word correctly for my students.  I can also have the students use it for the same reasons.

I used Google Calendar and added this class time. I have used other calendar before like the one on my smartphone so it was not that hard and was pretty much the same set up. I like the way you can have it repeat events. This would be useful for teachers to keep up with all the deadlines like when grades, progress reports, or in-services.

  1. I have used Google Translator also, when I needed to translate letters that I have received from friends that I have made in San Pedro, Dominican Republic. I spent 10 summers on mission there and still have strong connections in that special inner city on the ocean. However, sometimes the translation of my letters do not make sense to me.

  2. I think it works best for words and not whole documents. It is like I said certain words may have different meanings and certain combination of words may also have different meanings.
