Is It the End or Only the Beginning?

I really did like this assignment. It helped me understand that I really like the internet WAY too much. I told my daughter to learn something new every day. I try to live by that myself so, I usually pick something every day to research on the web and this assignment fit that to a tee. I also need to learn not to over think things. But that goes back to my Thing 1 weakness, have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner. I over think things as I am not confidence that what I have done for an assignment is correct, long enough, or some other reason I can come up with to doubt my work.

The only feedback I can give is that it needs to be updated as many of the sites have changed or no longer work. Some are going away and some are now going under a new name so, updating is needed.

I will probably change my blog to a classroom blog or just leave it for future students to visit and get ideas from. If I leave it, I will create a classroom blog. I am still thinking if it will be for both parents and students or just for students.

This really was a fun assignment even if it took forever to complete. YEAH!!!!

THE END……….

Thing 23

Thing 23
If you noticed there is an asterisk after the bold The 23 Things on the first page. If you go down to the bottom you will see this.

Also on every page under the credits is this.

This shows and gives credit to the original developer of this assignment.

I will share this information with my students and try to make sure the stuff I use has a Creative Commons License. I hope one day this will become more noticeable and use more by teachers and professors.  I did not know about Creative Commons until I took this course. If more people are made aware that this is out there then plagiarizing would not be as big of a problem as it is now.

LiveBinders are an excellent way to keep all your teaching material in one place so you don’t have to go from file to file looking for things. As a teacher every morning I could go to my binder and set up the links I need to teach my classes for the day. I am finding more and more things to make teaching easier and more tech savvy. Students these days are very technology linked to the world so being able to learn how to use more technology like LiveBinders and everything else in these 23-things will help me be a teacher who hopefully can connect with these students.

Here is my World History binder I created.

Thing 21: My Cats and Dogs

My Cats and Dogs

This was fun. I have hundreds of photos I could make videos out of. As I was doing my video, I was thinking this would be  a good thing for my students. I could make videos of historical pictures or documents and show them to my students.   It could also be a project I assign to my students. I have found several project ideas from doing these 23-things.

Thing 20

I use YouTube all the time. I am a visual learner along with hands on. I search YouTube for things I am learning about in school and things that just peak my interest. My Communication 1010 class was online during Wintermester 2012. We made a YouTube account and uploaded our videos to our accounts for the professor and students in the class to view. It is a private account but, I added one of my video from the class to my blog. I am not good at public speaking so I am a bit nervous and also due to the subject matter a bit emotional. YouTube is a great source for teachers. As I mentioned I am a visual learner and use YouTube for an addition way to learn. This would be a great way to help students that are also visual learners or gifted. As a teacher I can post links to videos that goes along with what I am teaching and that night the students can view these videos. I can also use videos in my class as part of my lesson.

Thing 19

On TeacherPop, I uploaded a photo of my dog Chance and added the TeacherPop badge to my blog. As for the others, I looked around but to be honest I don’t think I would join any other ones. I like Facebook and with my job, school, and other things I don’t have the time to be on all these sites. I could see using these sites later to get ideas, talk, and collaborate with other teachers.   As a new teacher, I will have to find the sites we have explored or ones I find on my own to come up with my network of things to use to make me a better teacher.

Thing 18

Now Facebook is something I do every day. I have my security set so only friends can see anything. I have my daughter’s senior prom picture as my cover picture and a picture of her as my picture also. I changed them shortly after her passing and have not changed them since and I will never change them to anything but another picture of her. It is just something I do to keep her in my present and it makes me feel like she is with me every step I take in my life. Facebook is great for keeping up with friends. I have three friends in Australia, two friends in Ohio, a friend in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Oregon, and Illinois that we have a constant message going that we all post on most days. We all met on the internet at a different site and quickly became friends and now 8 years later we are still friends. Until the internet and social sites like Facebook that would not have been possible.

Here is my home page from Facebook.

I have not been on Twitter since I set up my account. I am following four Fox New, Tennessee Titans, The University of Kentucky, and Austin Peay State University. I have not even sent a Tweet. I just really don’t get Twitter. To me it seems like a nosey site. I am not that interested in what everyone is doing at all times. If it is something important it will be on the news.

Facebook started at a university for students and then quickly spread to the world so, I think if every school started a website like Facebook just for their students it would be a great way for the students to collaborate with each other.  In the high school setting, juniors and seniors could help freshmen and sophomores. Teacher could organize school wide projects. Sports, art, music, and organization programs could organize fundraising. I think something like Facebook would be a positive thing for schools to look into starting.
